Crime y punishment: what types of crimes affect your community? what should happen to criminals? write 2 3 sentences expressing yo. I live in Cartagena, and unfortunately, were heavily affected by street theft especially in downtown or tourist beaches, armed robberies in working class neighborhoods, and small scale drug trafficking that recruits young people. There’s also corruption like cops who ‘turn a blind eye’ for money. Here’s what I think: Non violent thieves like phone snatchers should get community service and training programs, since many do it out of desperation. Violent criminals like gang members or hitmen need prison time but authorities should also go after the bosses pulling the strings. Most importantly More opportunities for young people. Without education or jobs, crime stays a ‘viable option’.
